Shelby County issued the following announcement on Sept. 21.
We need your assistance. The census ends officially on September 30, 2020. As of September 19, 2020, Alabama has the lowest response rate of any State in the nation at 87.8% The national enumerated response rate is 95%.
The State of Alabama is currently at risk of losing TWO Congressional Representatives which could hinder school funding, federal and state aid for disaster relief, food assistance, Electoral College votes, rental and utility assistance, dental, medical, and medicine relief, Title I, II, VII, XIII funding are just a few of things that will be affected if we can’t get the word out to all Alabama citizens to complete the census.
These next few weeks will determine our future representation and Federal funding received at a State and local level.
The U. S. Census has workers in Shelby County out in the neighborhoods knocking on doors, but our residents can still go online (2020census.gov) or call 844-330-2020 to complete the census survey over the phone.
