Chilton County Court House issued the following announcement on Nov. 4.
Thankful for all of these who work so hard for the citizens of Chilton County!
Lengthy post but you need to know what happened.
I spoke too soon and bragged a little too much about no major issues throughout the day and at 6:15pm with 45 minutes left to cast your vote, Derrick Wright with Chilton County EMA contacted the Election Management Team and notified us of a power outage about to take place in Verbena. Sheriff John Shearon, Gerald Mims, Myself and Blew out the back doors of the Courthouse and quickly activated Our power outage back up plan we developed over the past several days. We grabbed the generator provided by the state EMA and raced to the Verbena polling precinct while Derrick Wright grabbed some portable lighting and met us there. While we unloaded the generator Derrick and his crew assembled the lights and placed them in the polling precinct. The Power went out, the generator was turned on and the poll workers in Verbena completed their polling responsibilities under portable lighting. We gathered the data, ate an awesome piece of pound cake, raced back to the courthouse and reported the vote count from Verbena and I don’t believe anyone was aware of what just happened. I tell this story to recognize the level of dedication and commitment your/our staff has to protect the integrity of the election process in Chilton County. Sheriff John Shearon, Gerald Mims, Derrick Wright and crew, every poll worker in Verbena, you were all ROCK STARS last night and I am thankful for each and every one of you. By the way, voter turnout was 64%. All votes were tallied and reported and we all left the courthouse by 9pm last night. All in all it was a GREAT DAY/NIGHT for the election management team.
For the record, all of our poll workers were rock stars.
