3.3% of Shelby County residents considered unemployed in 2021

Shelby County recorded an unemployment rate of 3.3% among residents aged 16 and 65 years old in 2021. That’s 3,774 people out of the 220,780 living in Shelby County at the time, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The unemployment rate in Shelby County has decreased compared to the 3.8% registered in 2020.

The percentage of people unemployed in Shelby County was less than the statewide unemployment rate of 5.4%.

Of the 111,747 people who had a job during that time, 309 were employed in the Armed Forces and 111,438 belonged to the civilian labor force.
